Tilitonse Foundation has created an opportunity to partner with registered Non-State Actors (NSAs) which are passionate about being drivers of change in this country.
The opportunity is through Thematic Call Window which is an open, competitive funding process aimed at supporting Non State Actors engage in governance interventions on a specific identified theme.
Tilitonse Foundation aims to deliver one or more of the following result areas:
- Active citizenship: Duties of citizens; Voice and Action; Accountability and transparency; Democratic freedom to participate; Empowerment to participate
- Local governance: Roles of the Council and Committee; Roles of Secretariat; Councillors and Members of Parliament; Traditional Leaders; people centered development planning
- Gender and social inclusion: Gender Equality; Gender based violence; Marginalised groups
- Economic governance: Access to economic opportunities; Equity of access to capital; Equity of distribution of resources; Pro-poor planning/budgeting; Access to economic skills; Extractive industry; Agriculture/marketing and pricing
- Rule of law: Access to justice; Juvenile justice; Knowledge of and appeal to law; Minority rights; Respect for the law; Anti-Corruption.
The Thematic Call Window
- The Thematic Call Window focuses on Urban Governance and Management following a Political Economy Analysis study on State of Urban Governance and Management in Malawi which was conducted in 2019. The Call is looking for applications from NSAs that will bring out innovative projects that are specifically designed to strengthen urban governance and management to promote citizen centered governance and development planning, and create an empowered active citizenry.
- This is planned to be achieved through: creation of an alliance of CSOs with other partners that can share knowledge and skills on urban governance and management in Malawi; engaging with relevant actors and advocate for institutional changes in urban development planning. Eligible projects under this call may be new or those that seek to build on existing projects that contribute to any of the following aspirations:
- Increasing local revenue generation in urban councils
- Influencing placement of waste management at the centre of priorities for central government and urban councils
- Freeing urban councils from political interference/capture
- Strengthening urban governance forums
- Influencing policy and law reform in urban management
Eligibility Criteria
- All registered NSAs including civil society organisations (CS0s), research and policy advocacy institutions faith-based organizations, the media, the academia, trade unions, professional bodies, registered coalitions/networks/plafforms.
- Tilitonse Foundation emphasizes collaboration and coalition building as a key approach to project implementation under this funding window. Therefore, organisations are encouraged to build partnerships with various stakeholders/actors to enable more innovative and effective linkages between sub-national and national level actions. Particular priority will be given to proposals that build partnerships and alliances with various stakeholders inducing other non-state actors at the national level, community based organizations and faith based organizations at the local level, the media, the academia, central ministries, and their agencies to come up with strategic activities in any of the issues identified.
