The South Saskatchewan Community Foundation is accepting applications for the Truth and Reconciliation Fund.
The South Saskatchewan Community Foundation believes in supporting projects and initiatives carried out by charities that will further the Calls to Action and support Indigenous led organizations and Indigenous community needs in south Saskatchewan.
The Truth & Reconciliation Fund disbursements will be made in accordance with the granting policies and assisted by an advisory committee which will include representatives of the Indigenous community with whom SSCF has established a relationship and/or partnership. Their efforts together are to learn more about the past together and to find better ways to support a brighter future.
The fund is intended to address programs that will help advance the Truth & Reconciliation Calls to Action in the areas of Education, Culture and Language. For example, this may include opportunities for children, youth and families to reconnect to their culture by providing opportunities such as workshops, events, classes that offer individuals and families connection to Elders, communities, and the Land.

Who Can Apply?
- You can apply, if:
- You are in Saskatchewan. (Activities must take place in south Saskatchewan: from Davidson west to the Alberta border, east to the Manitoba border, and south to the United States border.)
- You are a registered charity or qualified done. SSCF can only grant to registered charities or qualified donees, and a Department of National Revenue Taxation Charity Registration number is an eligibility requirement. If not registered, a formal partner with charitable status is required and a formal agreement with the partner included as part of a complete application.
- You are an Indigenous led organization
- Your organization have Indigenous representation at different levels. (staff, board, committee)
- Your programs are delivered by Indigenous people
- Your organization follow formal protocols with Indigenous communities
Eligibility Criteria
- SSCF funds are intended to benefit communities in south Saskatchewan, as per SSCF’s definition.
- Grants are generally intended to support projects rather than ongoing programs.
- Grants are intended to support projects that align with the purpose and intent of the Truth and Reconciliation Fund in the areas of Education, Culture and/or Language, as demonstrated by the application.
- Grants are made to organizations with the capacity to successfully complete the project, a well thought-out project plan, a reasonable budget, and a sound financial plan as demonstrated by the application.
- Organizations may only submit one application per Truth and Reconciliation Fund deadline.
- Grants are only to be used for the purpose described and approved. Any unused portion of the grant must be returned to SSCF.
Ineligible
- Primarily benefit individuals (scholarships)
- A project that does not advance the Calls to Action in the areas of Education, Culture, and/or Language
- Capital campaigns.
- A project that promotes discrimination or that does not comply with SSCF policy.
- Grants are not made to organizations engaged in multiple activities, which might redistribute SSCF funds to other organizations.
- Grants are not made to any religious organizations where the funds would be used to further the organization’s religious purposes.
- Grants are not made for any political purposes.
- Grants are not made to support projects normally financed by public tax funds or that appear to be sufficiently funded.
- Grants are not made for endowments, contingencies, operating or deficit financing.
- Grants are not made for fundraising, advertising or marketing activities.
- Organizations with any overdue SSCF reporting may be ineligible to apply to or receive new funds from SSCF.
