U.S. Department of State, Bureau of DRL: IRF Nigeria Grant Program

Law Enforcement Agency De-Escalation Grants Program (US)

Deadline: 1 April 2019

The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) has announced an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that aim to decrease interreligious violence and intercommunal mistrust in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.

DRL’s goal is to decrease interreligious violence and intercommunal mistrust in Nigeria’s Middle Belt prompted by hate speech, misinformation or rumors focusing on religious differences and disseminated through traditional media or online. Competitive proposals should acknowledge the intersectional nature of societal tensions and should encourage societal actors to use critical thinking skills to separate religious and non-religious disputes. Proposals should also ensure voices of diverse groups, including women, youth, and others, participate in meaningful efforts to mitigate conflict and promote mutual understanding.
