U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia: Building Space for Professional Journalism

In-person and Virtual Fellowships for Journalists in Asia-Pacific

Deadline: 25 August 2017

The U.S. Embassy is seeking an implementing partner to conduct a training project for Ethiopian journalists from all regional states under the theme “Building Space for Professional Journalism.”

The goal is to provide journalists with skills to investigate development-related projects in areas such as public health, education, agriculture, humanitarian assistance, and economic livelihoods, and to offer participants opportunities to use the skills they gain from the training to advance professionalism among journalists.

The first phase would involve a series of trainings held in Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa and in all nine regional states.  Multiple trainings will occur in each region, educating journalists on how to understand and to report on various topics (e.g. health, agriculture, education, etc.). Trainings will be open to journalists working for state media as well as independent outlets.  Trainings will be conducted by experts from relevant offices in USAID, CDC, and the Department of State.
