The U.S. Embassy, Public Affairs Section has announced the FY 2018 Mission-Driven Alumni Outreach (MDAO) Small Grant Competition.
The MDAO Small Grant Competition offers alumni of U.S. Government-sponsored exchange programs the opportunity to propose innovative projects that address one of three U.S. foreign policy themes.
Strategic Priorities
All submitted projects must address one of the three U.S. foreign policy themes below:
- Fostering a Culture of Entrepreneurship – Projects promote or develop best practices in business and entrepreneurship. Proposals to create for-profit businesses or directly employ workers are not eligible for funding.
- Empowering Women and Girls to Participate in Governance – Projects enhance or support empowerment of women and girls in civil society, the economy, government, education, and sports.
- Promoting and Advancing STEM as a Means to Economic Diversification – Projects promote opportunity for education, particularly for under-represented or marginalized groups. Projects should include mentorship programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), or English language.
Funding Information
The total amount of funding is $5,000 per theme and the anticipated total number of awards is three, contingent upon availability
Eligibility Criteria
- This competition is open ONLY to alumni of U.S. exchange programs.
- Businesses and government entities do not qualify. Applicants must be individuals or registered NGOs run by U.S. alumni.
- Recipients can demonstrate their commitment by either contributing to the project financially, or providing labor or supplies to carry out the project. Cost-sharing is not required but highly encouraged.
