The U.S. Embassy Honduras Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State has announced an open competition for organizations and individuals to submit applications to carry out a program or project through its Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program.
Purpose of Small Grants
PAS Honduras invites proposals for programs that strengthen ties between the U.S. and Honduras through cultural and educational programming that highlights shared values and promotes bilateral cooperation. All programs must include an American cultural element, or connection with American expert/s, organization/s, or institution/s in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives.
Priority Areas
- Community-based irregular migration deterrence (priority: preventing communities at greatest risk to pursue irregular means of leaving Honduras toward the United States from making the journey, and equip and empower them to remain in Honduras);
- Expanding English language proficiency (priority: reaching public schools, higher education students, and young professionals);
- Increased social inclusion (priority: equal rights and opportunities for women, LGBTI individuals, people with disabilities, indigenous communities, and racial minorities, as well as civic education);
- Fostering entrepreneurship and innovation (priority: projects that increase the number of women and minority small business owners, including social impact investment and philanthropy);
- U.S. – Honduras Cooperation in science and technology (priority: women/girls in STEM and sustainable environmental practices that contribute to tourism or other job-creation opportunities);
- Increasing cultural exchanges between the United States and Honduras (priority: reaching underserved audiences outside of Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, particularly in Western Honduras);
- Increasing academic exchanges between the United States and Honduras (priority: higher education students);
- Advancing excellence in journalism (priority: investigative journalism, covering elections, recognizing/countering disinformation).

- Maximum for Each Award: $15,000
Eligibility Criteria
- The Public Affairs Section encourages applications from the U.S. and Honduras:
- Individuals;
- Registered nonprofit organizations; and
- Public and private educational and cultural institutions.
- For-profit or commercial entities and government institutions (other than educational and cultural institutions) are not eligible to apply.
- Examples of programs eligible for funding:
- Creative projects that advance one or more of the priority areas listed above and will make a lasting impact;
- English language activities such as conversation clubs, coding camps, and English courses for specific purposes that will impact priority program areas;
- Academic and professional lectures, seminars and speaker programs featuring U.S. experts with Honduran counterparts, focused on priority programs;
- Professional and academic exchanges and programs that foster long-term student and academic collaboration between U.S. and Honduran universities, technical schools and community colleges that focus on priority program areas;
- Joint U.S. – Honduran conferences, meetings, or training programs that produce concrete results in priority program areas;
- Artistic and cultural workshops, joint performances and exhibitions that make an impact on priority program areas; and
- Projects that showcase a U.S. model or curriculum to advance priority program areas.
