The U.S. Embassy Seoul Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State is seeking applications for its Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program.
PAS awards a limited number of grants to individuals, non-governmental organizations, think tanks, and academic institutions to support exchange between the U.S. and the Republic of Korea with the aim of improving mutual respect and understanding. PAS will only consider grants that have an American component or aspect in their proposal.
Projects
- Academic and professional lectures, seminars and speaker programs;
- Artistic and cultural workshops, joint performances and exhibitions;
- Cultural heritage conservation and preservation projects;
- Professional, and academic exchanges and projects;
- Professional development workshops and training;

Ceiling of Award Amounts: $100,000
Funding Activities
- The U.S. – ROK Alliance:
- Security issues, Public diplomacy activities to enhance public approval of the Alliance, Regional/Global peace and stability, Non-proliferation of WMD
- Trade & Economic Partnership:
- Expansion of U.S. exports and investment flows, Improvement of domestic business environment and Regional economic integration
- Transnational, Regional and Global Challenges:
- Solutions to transnational, regional, and global challenges, including cyber-security, terrorist, and health threats; climate change; etc., as well as cooperation in such areas as space exploration, energy, and technology.
- Human Rights and Rule of Law:
- Universal human rights; public policies; Social/Economic equality for women; North Korean refugees, Immigrants, Multi-ethnic groups, LGBT, and other marginalized populations; Law enforcement on domestic and transnational criminal activities
- Public Diplomacy:
- Promotion of people-to people ties between the United States and the ROK, U.S. policy and values through media outreach, exchange programs, and public diplomacy.
Eligibility Criteria
The U.S. Embassy Seoul Public Affairs Section encourages applications from organizations located in the Republic of Korea or the Parent U.S. organizations that have subsidiary organizations located in Korea:
- Registered public or private nonprofit organizations, such as think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations with programming experience
- Educational institutions
- Governmental institutions
Review Schedule
The U.S. Embassy Seoul Public Affairs Section will accept proposals throughout the year and will review proposals according to the following schedule:
- [1st Quarter] Proposals received between October 1 and December 31 will be reviewed by January 20, with responses going out by January 31 (Project starts prior to February 28 will not be considered).
- [2nd Quarter] Proposal received between January 1 and March 31 will be reviewed by April 20, with responses going out by April 30 (Project starts prior to May 31 will not be considered).
- [3rd Quarter] Proposal received between April 1 and June 30 will be reviewed by July 20, with responses going out by July 31 (Project starts prior to August 31 will not be considered).
- [4th Quarter] Proposal received between July 1 and September 30 will be reviewed by October 20, with responses going out by October 31 (Project starts prior to November 30 will not be considered).
