Deadline: 10 September 2017
U.S. Embassy in South Africa Public Affairs Section, U.S. Department of State (PAS) has announced a project entitled “Empowering Youth to Combat Gender Based Violence. A grantee will work cooperatively with the Public Affairs Section in Pretoria to tackle an important aspect of HIV/AIDS prevention, which is combating gender based violence (GBV). GBV has been identified as a driver of the rising rate of HIV/AIDS infections in adolescent girls and young women.
This project will provide training and engagement to a group of selected program participants including adolescent girls and boys and young men and women from South Africa’s high HIV burden areas (these must be exclusively from PEPFAR “focus districts.” The U.S. Embassy, thought PEPFAR partners, may provide assistance in directing partner organization to potential participants).
Goals
- to deliver potentially lifesaving educational messages about countering GBV to target populations through personal interactions and media campaigns (to include social media and traditional media, including in vernacular languages where possible)
- to raise awareness of U.S. Government funding to support the fight against HIV/AIDS in South Africa through U.S. PEPFAR
