U.S. Embassy in Uganda: Small Grant to Implement Gender-Based Violence Radio & Video Project

AfDB-NIW's High 5s Startup Challenge: Improving the Quality of Life for the People of Africa

Deadline: 20 February 2018

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Mission in Uganda has announced an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for a small grant to implement and manage a gender-based violence (GBV) video and radio programming project. This 6-month project will produce videos and radio skit programming to raise awareness about GBV in Northern and Eastern Uganda.

With the goal of targeting men, radio skit programming should be in local languages (Luganda, Lusoga, Acholi, Ateso, and Lugbara) and include moderator question and answer sessions following the skits. The implementer will be expected produce the skits and coordinate with local radio stations across Uganda to play them.  Please note radio airtime costs are to be included in the overall budget by the implementing partner.  For the videos, they should target secondary school students and men and be in English and Luganda. The videos will be played online and at different events across the country.

In order to successfully implement the project, the grantee must collaborate closely with the Embassy on the correct messaging for the programming.  However, the grantee must have the ability to produce the skits with minimal supervision from the Embassy.  The partner must include an evaluation and follow-up metric as part of the program.  This project supports one of the embassy’s main Mission goals, to improve Uganda’s education, health, and economic development systems.
