The U.S. Embassy Juba Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State is pleased to announce that funding is available through its Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program. PAS Juba invites proposals for programs that strengthen cultural ties between the United States and South Sudan through programming that advances core U.S. foreign policy goals, highlights shared values, and promotes bilateral cooperation.
All programs must include an American cultural element, or connection with American expert/s, organization/s, or institution/s in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives.
Priority Program Areas
- Advancing South Sudan’s Peace Process
- Example: Prepare emerging leaders among women, youth, and other marginalized groups to participate in peace processes and civic dialogue by providing them with skills and access to information.
- Promoting Democracy
- Example: Projects that help to develop sustainable, democratic institutions that reflect American values, including human rights, justice, and the rule of law.
- Promoting Transparency
- Example: Empower civil society organizations that are working to combat corruption and find ways to increase transparency and access to information.
- Strengthening the Media Community
- Example: Provide technical assistance and training to media professionals to improve their professionalism and capacity for evidence-based reporting.
- Supporting Entrepreneurship
- Example: Projects that promote economic development by providing training and opportunities for entrepreneurs (with a focus on youth) to succeed.
Funding Information
- Length of performance period: up to 12 months;
- Number of awards anticipated: at least one;
- Total available funding: Awards may go up to a maximum of $40,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Participants and Audiences:
- Programs should focus on South Sudanese audiences between the ages of 14 to 35.
- The Public Affairs Section encourages applications from:
- Registered not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations with programming experience.
- Individuals.
- Public and private educational institutions.
- For-profit or commercial entities are not eligible to apply.
