UN-Habitat CFP: Redevelopment of Al Asry Park and Organization in Iraq

are-able Foundation Community Grant Program (Australia)

Deadline: 26-Dec-21

The United Nations Human Settlements (UN-Habitat) Iraq Programme hereby solicits proposals by NGOs for the Redevelopment of Al Asry Park and organization of an “Al Asry Environmental Clean-Up Campaign” and an “Al Asry Greening Initiative” in AlAsry Neighborhood, Baiji District, Salah al Din Governorate.

The EU-funded programme titled “Supporting Recovery and Stability through Local Development in Iraq” aims to assist the Government of Iraq (GoI) to restore the legitimacy of the country’s institutions and to renew the social contract between citizens and state in a context of fractured and sectarian governance.

The overall goal of the intervention is to contribute to the stability and socio-economic development of Iraq by enhancing democratic governance at the local level.

The proposed intervention will consist of the landscaping and redevelopment of Al Asry Park which is considered the largest park in Baiji district, where to hold open-air activities for Baiji families, children, and youth, the launching and organization of an “Al Asry Environmental Clean-Up Campaign” which will engage around 450 households inside Al Asry Neighbourhood in the centre of Baiji District in cooperation with Baiji Municipality, and finally organizing an “Al Asry Greening Initiative” which will improve the green cover of the area and help mitigate the impact of climate change in this war stricken area. This intervention aims to promote the quality of open spaces and provide occasions for social interaction among families, children, and youth that have lived through more than a decade of insecurity, years of harsh ISIL ruling and/or displacement, as a means to support the recovery, reconciliation and sustainable return of the inhabitants of Salah al din.
