UNDP announces Great Green Wall Program in Mozambique

As part of the implementation of the Great Green Wall program, UNDP/UNOPS invites interested institutions to express their interest in submitting project proposals in the areas of environment and climate change, to be implemented in the landscapes of Guija and Mabalane in the province of Gaza.

The SADC Great Green Wall Initiative is an African partnership to halt and reverse trends in land degradation, desertification, climate change and biodiversity loss, using mechanisms that enable landscape restoration and sustainable management, including intersectoral coordination mechanisms with adequate and mandatory resources and local institutions with access to technical resources and financial resources and training. This Great Green Wall ‘new Program is a partnership between the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Program (SGP) and the African Union Commission.

Mozambique’s objective is to combat desertification and land degradation, mitigate the effects of drought to achieve land degradation neutrality through the implementation of a combination of actions to protect ecosystems, plant trees, promote climate sustainability, smart agriculture, sustainable forest management, water capture and management, and sustainable and clean energy.
