UNDP is calling for proposals for Low-value Grants to Local Civil Society Organizations to specialize institutions that work on peace, conflict resolution, women’s rights, and social cohesion to engage in the implementation of efforts for social cohesion and peacebuilding.
Purposes
- Primary purpose of the CSO/NGO initiative grants is to support local civil society, youth and women’s groups, research organizations, think tanks, and specialized institutions that work on peace, conflict resolution, women’s rights, social cohesion to engage in the implementation of efforts for social cohesion and peacebuilding.
- Covid-19 Response & Social Cohesion project seeks proposals from Afghan national and local civil society organizations (CSOs), youth and women’s group, research organizations, media organizations, think tanks and specialized institutions to implement specific activities that fit this purpose with a focus on innovative and targeted activities on promoting social cohesion and peace. The Project encourages CSOs to suggest creative ways of engagement with communities.
Focus Areas
The examples of the thematic focus area could be, but not limited to the below list:
- Training on peace and conflict resolution, social cohesion
- Social cohesion initiatives in various platforms such as education institutions, media …. etc.
- Promoting women’s role in peacebuilding and social cohesion
- Promoting narratives of peace and social cohesion
- Creative Communication on COVID-19 and social cohesion
- Research and studies on topics related to social cohesion and peace
- Advocacy initiative for promoting social cohesion and peace
Funding Information
- Total budget of Covid-19 Response & Social Cohesion CO Project for this grant programme is USD 370,000.
- Grant will be awarded in one category, project of a maximum amount of USD 65,000.
Expected results of Low Value Grants
The expected results for the low value grants are:
- Train community elders, religious leaders, schoolteachers, women, and youth to promote social cohesion and peace. For this purpose, the selected grant recipient should provide conflict resolution, mediation, effective communication, and dialogue and gender equality trainings to community elders, religious leaders, school teachers, women, and youth to promote social cohesion in Sorobi district of Kabul, Dawalatabad and Balkh districts of Balkh, and Shindad and Ghoryan districts of Herat provinces. Focusing on the protracted conflicts as well as refugee displacement crises. National wide activities are also encouraged to be included.
- Address particular social cohesion problems and yield effective results in strengthening social cohesion at the local level through innovative approaches, creative thinking and a desire to advance the range, depth, and impact of civil society initiatives on identifying ways to strengthen social cohesion in communities.

- Balkh (Balkh and Dawlatabad districts)
Eligibility Criteria
Grants will be provided to capable and responsible non-partisan legally- registered Afghan Civil Society Organizations (this may include community-based organizations and other forms of Civil Society Organizations); consortia of CSOs, Think thanks, research organizations and media organizations. Individuals and government entities are not eligible to apply under this Call for Proposals.
