The Friends Provident Foundation is seeking applications for its “Developing a Fair Economy Grants Programme”.The Programme focuses on making a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable as this is where the flaws in the system are most obvious, not just in terms of poverty but also inequality.
Local economies that have the assets, understanding, tools and capacities to respond to changes in economic circumstances are important for strong communities.Economic, social and environmental disruption in the UK and beyond is evidence that the way capitalism and financial systems operate is creating social disharmony and increasing inequality.
Funding Information
- The upper limit is £200,000 though they would expect any project applying at the top end of this scale to be able to demonstrate a very close fit with the programme aims.
- The budget can of course cover up to five years, on average most projects are 1-2 years long.
Criteria
- The Foundation will judge each project idea on its merits, but will take into account your track record of managing a grant with them and your ability to deliver results.
- The Foundation have a policy of full cost recovery. Costs must be proportionate and based on a clearly outlined methodology.
- The Foundation have a two stage process so your ideas are reviewed at stage 1 and the full project proposal at stage 2. They are a small team and unfortunately do not have lots of time to discuss ideas. Please trust the process and submit your ideas with a stage 1 application. If your application is invited to stage 2 there will be opportunity to have an in-depth discussion with a member of the grants team.
- The work intended has a focus on the UK and there would be significant impact on economies in the UK.
Application process
- Their two stage process allows you to submit an idea and test it against our criteria before preparing a full application. Please do trust their process and submit your ideas if you want to know what they think. Given the number of applications they receive they cannot provide comments on speculative ideas outside of this process.
- The outline application is your opportunity to describe who you are, what you want to do, and why. Please make it clear how the proposed work would make a contribution towards the aim of our current funding programme, referencing one of the programme outcomes they are looking for. Once they have reviewed your outline application it will either be declined or you will be invited by our Trustees to a submit a full stage two application. During this process outline proposals are judged on:

- fit with the aim of our funding programme
- strength of your analysis of the current problems and the feasibility of methods to tackle them
- the nature and extent of the proposed outcomes
- the potential strategic impact of the work
- value for money
- the level and nature of any risks that might be involved
