Applications are now open for the ‘Greener Communities’ fund to help communities become ‘greener’ through carbon reduction, environmental improvement and education.

- Upskilling organisations to reduce carbon emissions
- Install and retrofit greener technology
- Being greener at home – i.e. reduced single-use plastics usage, encouraging recycling, reduced car usage
- Education and accredited training programmes for service

- Improve green spaces and habitats – green related projects such as dementia garden or bringing land or water back to life

Funding Information
Applications of up to £5,000 are welcomed from across Esh Construction’s operational areas.
What type of funding can you apply for?
Examples of the types of projects and activities they will support are listed below but they will consider funding any activities that have clear carbon reduction and environmental benefits and that meet their general criteria:
- capital items and/or equipment (except vehicles) for use in projects
- repair / improvement costs
- coaching or training activity
- project costs
- sessional costs
- a contribution to core costs (including staff wages) where the income of the organisation is less than £100,000 per year
- capacity building activities
- transport costs
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligibility for fund will normally be restricted to the following areas across North East and Yorkshire, these include: Durham, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Darlington, Sheffield, Barnsley, York, Wakefield and Hull.
- Projects outside of these areas may be eligible if it can be shown that they benefit local people from these areas.
- There are no limits to the size of organisation that can apply, however priority will be given to organisations that can evidence that they can deliver significant impact locally.
- Community groups, voluntary organisations and environmental projects that are charitable, educational, philanthropic or benevolent in purpose can apply to the Fund.
- This includes but is not restricted to:
- Playgroups
- Youth clubs
- Sports clubs and facilities
- The Scout and Guide Movement
- Senior citizens clubs and activities
- Village halls
- Church halls
- Local charities that benefit local people
- Environmental projects
- Schools (for non-statutory projects that are not normally funded by local authorities)
- Education, employment, training and skills development for unemployed people.
