LANL Foundation is pleased to announce its 2021 Education Enrichment Grants cycle, designed with a focus on equity and access, stemming from the LANL Foundation’s mission, vision, and commitment to listening to the communities it serves, promoting racial and social equity in all its programs and grantmaking.
This new grant cycle continues to build on improvements from LANL Foundation’s 2020 Education Enrichment cycle, which is grounded in feedback LANL Foundation received from its grantees through a Grantee Perception Survey conducted by the Center for Effective Philanthropy in 2019.
Focus Areas
Successful proposals will be by or working in partnership with Northern New Mexico’s public schools and will demonstrate impact in one or more of their 4 Focus Areas:
College, Career & Community Pathways
- They strive to strengthen K-12 school and district systems’ work – in partnership with higher education institutions, government entities, businesses, unions and non-profits – to provide students with equitable access to effective college/career preparation programs, experiences and supports so they can obtain a high quality job or start a business in their community aligned with their interests.
- Inclusive Proposals:
- Addressing systemic inequities, including trauma-informed approaches and internet connectivity
- Creating or improving career and technical education, career pathways events and programs or dual credit offerings focused on priority regional occupations
- Providing professional development and other support for college and career awareness and counseling
- Increasing work-based learning and mentorship opportunities
STEAM
- They strive to strengthen K-12 school and district systems, teacher preparation and professional development so that all children, educators, and leaders have increased access to strong career pathways, especially in STEAM.
- Inclusive Proposals:
- Building STEAM initiatives for K-12 participants,
- Professional development
- Student programming
- Culturally responsive and place-based pedagogies
- Building district, school, and/or staff capacity around STEAM opportunities
- They strive to increase K-12 student access to better prepared educators who provide students with robust opportunities to learn in environments that are responsive to learners’ needs and interests, particularly in SEL, neuro-sequential learning, and trauma informed instruction practices.

- Culturally responsive education practices
- Building student and staff culture
- Restorative justice practices
Growing & Supporting Teachers and Educational Leaders
- They strive to grow and support K-12 educational leaders and teachers in the seven-county area in an effort to influence teacher retention and recruitment.
- Inclusive Proposals:
- Innovative teacher recruitment and retention programs
- Support for education assistants in attaining their teaching license
- Professional development to improve place-based and culturally responsive teaching practices
- Professional development to build inquiry or project-based learning pedagogy in instructional staff
- Professional development for school leaders – including school boards, superintendents, principals, teacher coaches, and instructional leaders
- Grants will be awarded at a level of $20,00 per year for two consecutive years, up to $40,000 total over the two-year grant term.
- Through a two-stage application process, LANL Foundation will select 20 recipients to receive $40,000 awards, totaling $800,000 of investment in education across Northern New Mexico over the 2-year grant term.
Eligibility Criteria
- The LANL Foundation’s Outreach Grants are open to school districts, nonprofit New Mexico educational institutions, IRS-qualified 501(c)(3) organizations, government agencies, and Pueblo/Tribal communities serving Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Taos counties.
Ineligible Organizations
- 501(c)(3) charitable organizations not registered with the Registry of Charitable Organizations under the Office of the New Mexico Attorney as required by the New Mexico Charitable Solicitations Act
- Individuals or fraternal, veteran, labor or athletic organizations serving a limited constituency
- Political or lobbying organizations, or those supporting the candidacy of particular individuals
- Organizations whose activities are mainly international, requests for international travel
- Private foundations
- Capital fund drives of colleges
- Awardees of prior LANL Foundation grants that did not meet all of the reporting deadlines or other requirements of the funding agreement
