The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is seeking applications from eligible organizations to fund a for a program entitled “Media Enabling Democracy, Inclusion and Accountability in Moldova (MEDIA-M)” is a five-year activity that aims to promote the development of an independent, professional media that gives citizens access to a variety of perspectives, and to create a media sector that is more resilient to political and financial pressures.
The activity will strengthen the ability of independent media to fulfill its role as a watchdog over the government and serve as a space for citizens to engage in public policy dialogue. It also focus on the legal enabling environment will reinforce existing protections for freedom of speech, facilitate better implementation of laws, and advocate for media sector regulation in accordance with international norms.
MEDIA-M also aims to improve the capacity of local media support organizations to engender reform efforts in the media sector and participate as equal partners in their country’s democratic development.
Objectives
- Support independent media and production and dissemination of alternative content through grants and needs-based technical assistance.
- Build consumer understanding of and demand for independent, reliable, and high quality news and information through targeted media literacy activities.
- Improve the enabling legal and regulatory environment for independent media by strengthening the capacity of media support organizations.
- Cross-cutting objective: Nurture organizational capacity of local media institutions for transition to direct local awards.
Funding Information
- Subject to funding availability, USAID intends to provide $6,350,000 in total USAID funding over a five (5) years period. The ceiling for this program is $6,350,000.
- Actual funding amounts are subject to availability of funds.
Eligibility Criteria
- USAID is seeking applications from U.S. organizations for funding to support the program entitled “Media Enabling Democracy, Inclusion and Accountability in Moldova” project.
- USAID welcomes applications from organizations which have not previously received financial assistance from USAID.
- Applicants must have established financial management, monitoring and evaluation processes, internal control systems, and policies and procedures that comply with established U.S. Government standards, laws, and regulations.
- The successful applicant(s) will be subject to a responsibility determination assessment (Pre-award Survey) by the Agreement Officer (AO).
- The Recipient must be a responsible entity.
