The Auckland Council is pleased to launch the Waitakere Ranges Local Grant Programme to provide contestable and discretionary community grants to local communities.
Priorities
The Council welcome grant applications for projects that align with one or more of the following priorities:

Heritage, enivronment and the people
- Protect and enhance the area’s heritage features.
- Work closely with mataawaka and mana whenua partners.
- Support local projects and activities that contribute towards Maori educational, cultural, leadership, and employment outcomes.
- Fund community co-ordination for environmental activities.
- Make small grants to local groups for projects and actions which have a positive effect on the local environment.
- Support and deliver projects, programmes and activities that address stream and coastal erosion, water quality, weed and animal pest management, environmental programmes, education, and biodiversity (rural or urban).
- Support community-led food initiatives such as community gardens, learning to grow or prepare food, reducing packaging and food waste and sharing produce.

Resilient community
- Make small grants to local groups for projects or actions which will have a positive impact on community resilience.
- Support community-led household budgeting and financial literacy actions.
- Assist local communities to grow their organisational skills and capacity with neighbourhood development expertise, community-based training programmes, and placemaking resources.
- Support a breadth of projects and activities to ensure funding allocations reflect the wide range of communities, including Maori, Pasifika, and other social and ethnic groups.
- Explore new ways for people to connect with them and each other, such as neighbourhood forums or promoting use of social media.

Opportunities to experience arts, culture, and heritage
- Support arts and cultural activities that create a sense of place, interest, and local identity.
- Promote arts programmes that include emerging talent and creatives.
- Value and support the talented local artists and showcase their work.
- Increase opportunities for Maori arts and cultural expression.
- Protect key local sites of cultural and historic importance and tell their stories.
- Hold heritage events which celebrate the past, present and future.
- These priorities are outlined in the Waitakere Ranges Local Board Plan 2020.

- The Waitakere Ranges Heritage Area is protected and enhanced, and connections with surrounding communities are strengthened.

- The communities are resilient and strong.
- The communities experience wellbeing, belonging, and participation.
- People have a range of opportunities to experience arts, culture, and heritage.
