The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) is now accepting nominations for the 2022 Al-Sumait Prize in Food Security.
Areas
The prize is to be awarded to individuals or institutions who, through their research projects or initiatives, have made significant advancement within the following areas:
- Developing new varieties of seeds, crops or livestock which can improve the food security and nutrition in Africa.
- Increasing the shelflife, calorific and nutritional value of food produced and consumed domestically.
- Improving smallholder farmers’ access to agricultural inputs, techniques, technologies and markets to increase the availability of nutritious products, which are highly needed to improve the diet of the most vulnerable people living and making their livelihoods from the most marginal areas in Africa.
- Improving marketing, digititalization and adoption of modern business strategies in the field of food security and nutrition.
- Providing innovative and sustainable solutions in combating food insecurity and malnutrition in the African continent.
Prize Information
- The prize is awarded annually within one of three fields – Food Security, Health and Education – and has a value of $1,000,000 (One million US dollars).
Africa Agri-Food Development Programme (Matched funding grant support of up to €250,000)

Applications are now open for the Africa Agri-Food Development Programme (AADP), a joint initiative between the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM).
The substantial grants on offer help businesses to manage their financial risk and to use their expertise and resources to work on projects jointly with African companies to deliver a strong and positive impact.

- The AADP offers Irish Agri-businesses an invaluable opportunity to develop and harness the potential from innovative partnerships with companies in sub-Saharan African countries, providing matched funding grant support of up to €250,000 to Irish companies.
HEINEKEN Africa Foundation Grants for WASH and Mother & Child Healthcare

Countering Violent Extremism Program in West Africa

The Bureau of African Affairs Office of Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs (AF/PDPA) of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out virtual and in-person thematic programs in Africa.
Objectives
- Research and Identify a Network of Key Influencers and Credible Messengers.
- Train the Influencers to Identify Disinformation and Understand How to Counter in Their Community and Regionally.

- Length of performance period: 10 to 12 months

BIOPAMA CPFs: Medium Grants Program 2022 (2,9 million EUR is available)

The Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management (BIOPAMA) has announced a call for proposals for Medium Grants Program 2022 to address priorities for action, identified through management and governance effectiveness assessments (for example, PAME tools including IMET, METT, RAPPAM, Green List, EoH or equivalent; or PAGE tools including SAPA, GAPA, or SAGE), to improve the management and governance of protected and conserved areas, and the sustainable use of natural resources and livelihoods of surrounding local communities.
Funding Information
- In total, 2,9 million EUR is available to support this call for proposals in Western and Central Africa.
Grant size can be up to 200,000 EUR. A 5% co-funding from the applicant is required. This means that BIOPAMA will provide up to a maximum of 95 % of the total eligible costs of the project; and the applicant is required to provide a minimum of 5% co-financing.
The duration of the project should be of a maximum of 18 months.
Second Call for Partnerships with African Higher Education – PEA 2022

The French National Research Agency (ANR) has launched the second call on «Partnerships with the African Higher Education», funded by the French Development Agency (AFD), in the context of the « Bienvenue en France » strategy held by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Innovation, and Campus France.
Categories
The PEA2 Call for Projects identifies two categories of projects
- Projects aimed at regional outreach, able to support the development of a priority socio-economic sector for the country, or even the region, lacking in qualified personnel, and to become a regional reference in terms of training.
- National projects, targeted on a priority sector for the socio-economic development of the country with an existing training capacity insufficient with regard to the offer jobs.
Funding Information
The maximum amount of grant awarded to each winning project under the call is:
- 3.5 million euros for projects aimed at regional outreach;
- 2.5 million euros for national projects.
- The minimum amount is 1.5 million euros.

The U.S. Mission in Uganda’s Public Affairs Office is pleased to announce that funding is available through the Public Diplomacy Grant Program.
Grants are intended for committed and organized civil-society organizations, local representatives of civil society, think tanks, non-governmental organizations, cultural institutions, and academic institutions. Awards to individuals will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. All grantees must have a non-profit status.
Funding Information
- Estimated Total Program Funding: $200,000. Funding may be available to renew awards issued under the Public Diplomacy Grant Program for a period of two additional years.
- Award Ceiling: $40,000; proposals for awards over $40,000 and up to $200,000 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Award Floor: $5,000
- Projects generally should be completed within one year or less.
