The Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs (EAP), Office of Economic Policy is seeking proposals from eligible organisations for a program entitled ” Promoting 21st Century Gender-Related Labor Reforms in Malaysia or Vietnam” that will promote internationally recognized worker rights, broaden women’s participation in those economies, and build the capacity of workers’ organizations to support women in the workforce.
Activities
- Support and reinforce initiatives to assist Vietnam or Malaysia in implementing gender-related labor obligations, including implementation of laws, regulations, and practices related to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) gender-related labor obligations;
- Educate women workers and their employers on gender-related internationally recognized labor rights and domestic labor law, with a particular emphasis on freedom of association and workplace vulnerabilities such as employment discrimination – including sexual harassment, human trafficking – including forced labor, and child labor. Conduct outreach to women in unions in a manner that will not endanger them or their jobs.
- Advance leadership opportunities for women in trade unions and labor organizations, with a focus on freedom of association and participation in grassroots (factory-level) and national-level unions, and incorporating gender equality issues in union and workplace activities, social dialogue in the workplace, in and collective bargaining agreements.
- Promote inclusive public input in the design and implementation of key gender-related labor reforms.
Funding Information
- The approximate total funding is $396,000.
- The initial period of performance will be for September 2016-2017.
Eligibility Criteria
- Foreign Public Entities (Public International Organizations), educational and research institutions, U.S. and foreign NGOs.
- All submissions must be in English.
