Applications Open for Portenier Human Rights Bursary Competition 2018!

Call for Proposals: European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights Program (Eritrea)

Deadline: 15 June 2018

Applications are now open for the Portenier Human Rights Bursary Competition for 2018 that provides an opportunity for independent journalists and documentary-makers of any nationality working on significant human rights projects that may place them in danger to obtain hostile environment training.

The bursary is sponsored by the renowned human rights documentary producer, Giselle Portenier, who is also a member of the Forum’s board of directors.

The purpose of the bursary is to provide safety training for experienced or novice journalists or documentary makers working independently in the field of human rights. Applicants should be able to demonstrate (a) a clear interest or track record in casting light on human rights abuses, especially but not exclusively human rights abuses against women and children, and (b) an upcoming assignment or project with such a human rights focus.

Applicants must also show that they have important story ideas, a clear focus and sufficient funding for their project or documentary as to make its completion likely. Applications which do not, in the opinion of the organizers, provide reasonable evidence of project financing will not be sent to the jury.
