Applications are now open for the European Union (EU) Global Climate Change Alliance Plus (GCCA+) Youth Awards to support young journalists, writers and photographers to tell powerful climate stories around the world.
The EU GCCA+ Youth Awards will be an opportunity to shape and empower 5 young selected storytellers from countries that are most vulnerable to climate change. Winners will be announced before COP26.
The five award winners will be able to participate to a 6 weeks Masterclass by Climate Tracker with leading climate reporters and activists and will also be awarded equipment and a storytelling price.
The 5 winners of the GCCA+ Youth Awards will attend a 6 weeks Masterclass by Climate Tracker ADD LINK combining a series of both thematic and storytelling online trainings led by leading climate reporters and advocates from around the world. This will include one-on-one mentoring sessions for each of the 5 winners.
The Masterclass will be offered in English. Oneon-one mentoring will be offered in either English, French, Spanish, or (if possible) in the native language of the winner.
Award Information
The 5 winners will also be awarded a 350 EUR equipment price (i.e to locally upgrade their equipment, travel for the story, subscribe to better editing software) and a 250 EUR storytelling price after the publication of their video/story on the EU GCCA+ channels.
By accepting the prize winners commit to:
- Participate in all training and mentoring sessions.
- Submit drafts of all their work to Climate Tracker team members in a timely manner and following up on editorial reviews.
- Publish 1 video or story on EU GCCA+ channels.
- Agree the awarded video/story/photos published will be property of the EU as per applicable EU property rights requirements
- Assume full responsibility for all issues related to their video/story/photos
- Assume full responsibility regarding their authorship of the video/story submitted
Eligibility Criteria
If you are between 18 and 30 years and live in a GCCA+ country you can participate with a video/story with photos about climate change cooperation, preferably related to an EU-funded project in your country. There will be 1 winner for each for each the following regions that reflect EU GCCA+ main areas of intervention:
- Asia / Pacific
- East / Central Africa
- West Africa
- Southern Africa/Indian Ocean
- Latin America / Caribbean
What do GCCA ask?
You can participate with a video or a feature story accompanied by original photos:
- An original climate change video story (with subtitles in English, French or Spanish) – Length: 90” to 180”
- An original climate change written story in English, French or Spanish – 1000 to 1500 words, accompanied by 5 original photos with captions
