Applications open for Jean Monnet Fellowship Program

#fellowship

Deadline: 22-Oct-2025

The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies offers one-year Jean Monnet Fellowships to scholars who have obtained their doctorate more than five years prior to the start of the fellowship, i.e. 1 September 2026 for the academic year 2026-27.

The focus areas, objectives, priorities, or themes for the fellowship include selecting Jean Monnet Fellows on the basis of a research proposal and CV, ensuring the research proposal fits well with one of the Centre’s main research themes, programmes, and projects, providing a one-year fellowship duration from September to August, requiring fellows to reside in Florence to actively participate in academic activities, supporting the production of a publication from the research, offering a basic grant of €2,500 per month with possible adjustments for additional income, and providing family and dependent allowances under specific conditions.

Fellows are expected to reside in Florence for the entire duration of their fellowship to fully engage in the Centre’s activities. The fellowship supports research that leads to publications in the form of an EUI Working Paper, in a scientific journal, or with a reputable academic publisher. The grant provides a monthly stipend, which may be adjusted if the fellow receives other sources of income, and additional family allowances may be provided for partners and dependent children living with the fellow in Florence.

Fellows must arrange adequate medical insurance for their stay, either through their own scheme or the EUI’s private insurance. Research expenses of up to €650 are available for eligible costs, such as attending conferences. Travel expenses for the fellow’s incoming and outgoing trips are reimbursed up to a maximum of €1,200, with first-class rail or economy air fare as the standard. The Centre also assists non-EU fellows and their family members with visa and residence requirements.

Eligibility for the fellowship requires candidates to have obtained their doctorate more than five years prior to the start date of the fellowship, with candidates of all nationalities welcome to apply.

Selection is made by the Academic Staff of the Robert Schuman Centre and approved by the EUI Executive Committee, with final decisions not subject to appeal. Candidates must submit a CV with a list of publications, a 1–2 page letter of motivation, a 2–4 page research proposal, and a copy of their passport in the specified formats.

References must be submitted by 22 October 2025, 14:00 CEST.
