Apply for Eva Crane Trust Grant Program

US: Capacity Building Grant for Small Nonprofits ($20,000 Unrestricted Grant)

Deadline: 01-Sep-2025

The Eva Crane Trust is inviting grant applications to support innovative projects and collaborations that enhance knowledge in apiculture, beekeeping practices, and the historical significance of bees.

Research projects should aim to improve understanding of bees. Scientific projects are expected to disseminate findings through peer-reviewed research or academic publications. Outcomes should be widely shared to advance apicultural practices globally.

Projects must have a strong intellectual or strategic rationale. The Trust favors innovative and original investigative research, especially pump-priming funding to help start projects that might not otherwise launch. There is particular interest in supporting students beginning research in this field who have already received fellowships elsewhere.

Historical and archaeological projects should seek to gather new information or expand existing knowledge, sharing results widely beyond the typical bee community. Citizen Science projects should help collect large amounts of data otherwise unavailable or engage beekeepers and the public to raise awareness about apiculture and the environment through monitoring and information gathering.

The maximum grant available per application is £5,000. Applications requesting over £30,000 will be sent for external review by independent assessors.

PhD student applications must include detailed support from their supervisor. Exceptional cases may be considered for stipend funding covering the first year. Supervisors should review progress annually for projects longer than one year and report back to the Trustees.

Grants can be awarded to individuals and organizations that might otherwise struggle to find funding in this specialized area.

Funding does not cover standalone travel or conference registration fees, academic chairs, long-term or core funding such as overheads, retrospective project costs, entrepreneurs seeking commercial gain, other charities redistributing funds, basic beekeeping enterprises, or institutional overheads.
