European Researchers’ Night and Researchers at Schools Program 2025

Call for Submissions: Canon Foundation Research Fellowships

Deadline: 22-Oct-2025

Applications are now open for the European Researchers’ Night and the Researchers at Schools program. This joint initiative aims to promote research careers and bring science closer to the public, especially young people and students.

Proposals should include both the organization of the European Researchers’ Night and the implementation of the Researchers at Schools initiative. The European Researchers’ Night is held annually on the last Friday of September and can extend to the following day. Events may also include pre-events or post-events, such as wrap-up sessions or follow-up activities. These events aim to engage the general public, with a focus on youth, families, and communities that traditionally have limited access to science and research.

The Researchers at Schools initiative connects researchers with pupils by facilitating visits to research facilities and schools. The goal is to foster discussion on societal challenges and the role of research in addressing them, while helping students learn directly about EU research priorities and ongoing projects.

A total budget of €16,253,880 is available. Funding falls under Horizon Europe and supports various activities. Eligible categories include Research and Innovation Actions (RIA), Innovation Actions (IA), Coordination and Support Actions (CSA), Programme Co-Fund Actions (CoFund), and Innovation and Market Deployment Actions (IMDA). These activities range from basic research to large-scale validation and market deployment.

The expected outcomes include improved interaction between researchers and citizens, enhanced communication skills among researchers, and increased visibility of participating institutions. Projects are also expected to make science more accessible, promote citizen engagement, and better communicate research results to society.

Applicants must be based in an EU Member State, an Overseas Country or Territory linked to a Member State, or a country associated with Horizon Europe. Eligible countries include all EU states, selected territories such as Aruba and French Polynesia, and associated countries like Norway, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine.
