Request for Applications: AIAS-AUFF Fellowship Program

Deadline: 28-Oct-2025

The Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies is pleased to announce up to 10 AIAS-AUFF Fellowships in this 2025-2026 call.

The AIAS-AUFF fellowship offers researchers a unique opportunity to immerse deeply in their own projects while benefiting from interdisciplinary collaboration and academic development.

An AIAS-AUFF fellowship allows for in-depth immersion and reflection in one’s own project, while also offering the possibility to gain insights into other disciplines and their methodologies and approaches, thus making cross-disciplinary inspiration, collaborations and initiatives possible. Additionally, AIAS provides a stimulating, career-empowering atmosphere with tailored activities that focus on cultivating essential competencies for a successful academic development. During the fellowship, several joint research activities will be organized depending on the needs and interests of the selected cohort of fellows. The AIAS-AUFF fellows must be based in Aarhus and situated physically in the AIAS building to participate in and contribute to the academic life of AIAS.

The fellowship has a duration of 23 months, beginning on 1 September 2026 and concluding on 31 July 2028, with the period being consecutive and non-negotiable. It is a full-time position and cannot be prolonged by part-time work. Fellows will receive a full salary based on seniority according to Danish collective union agreements, along with one-way travel costs, visa and work permit fee coverage, relocation assistance, office space, and access to AIAS facilities. Additional funding is available on a case-by-case basis for conference participation, travel, and limited research expenses such as laboratory experiments or fieldwork.

Applicants must have between 2 and 10 years of postdoctoral experience at the deadline of 28 October 2025, with PhD completion falling between 28 October 2015 and 28 October 2023. Consideration is given to career breaks such as maternity, paternity, sick leave, or military service, which are formally accounted for to ensure fair evaluation. Furthermore, applicants must meet the mobility demand, which requires not having resided or carried out their main activity in Denmark for more than 12 months within the two years immediately prior to the deadline.

Applications must include a PhD diploma, a CV and publication list of up to ten pages, and details of career trajectory, mobility statement, and any career breaks. The evaluation of applications will focus on the scientific excellence of the project description, methodology, impact, feasibility within the fellowship period, the applicant’s academic qualifications, potential, collaborative experiences, and the alignment of the proposed project with the interdisciplinary environment of AIAS and Aarhus University.
