Are you flipping the script, rethinking how we live, and driving change towards the achievement of the SDGs? It is time to react, reset, restart. Old models have not delivered. We need new ones. Therefore, the UN SDG action campaign is looking for you!
They want to hear about your new approaches, new models for SDG delivery, new methods of reaching the underrepresented and collaborating with the unexpected!
For this purpose, nominations are now open for the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Action Awards – A signature initiative of the UN SDG action campaign, designed to celebrate transformative approaches and innovative solutions that drive SDG action from across the world.
The SDG story is about what most people want: more inclusive, peaceful and sustainable societies, no later than 2030. That’s why the UN SDG Action Campaign is calling for people who are rewriting the story that shapes a new reality.
When applying, make sure to offer clear supporting evidence such as photos and videos and endorsements from participants in your initiative. Finalists will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Bonn, Germany, in September 2022, with winners being supported by a program of activities to help increase their impact and generate positive change.
Award Categories
The UN SDG Action Awards are looking for initiatives that mobilize, inspire and connect people to drive action towards a more sustainable future on a healthy planet.
- Mobilize:
- Initiatives that mobilize hundreds of thousands, or even millions of individuals, to take action for the SDGs. They are seeking initiatives with high impact, typically involving collective and coordinated actions that mobilize people to flip the script on how they achieve the 2030 Agenda.
- Inspire:
- Initiatives that harness the power of creativity and/or innovation to inspire a shift in behaviour for the SDGs. They are seeking initiatives and inspirational campaigns that flip the script and demonstrate impact on shifting individual behavior and/or public policies.
- Connect:
- Initiatives that connect diverse partners, bridging the gap between citizens and institutions, to increase progress on the SDGs. They are seeking initiatives that flip the script on how people, organizations, and institutions connect with each other to harness commitments and accountability towards the SDGs.
- Nominate Changemakers:
- Outstanding individuals who are demonstrating that the power is in their hands to inspire and enact change. Their actions have had an extraordinary impact in creating a multiplying effect – in turn empowering others to engage.
Prize Information
Award finalists will be invited to join the UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony in Bonn in person in September, where the winners will receive an UN SDG Action Award trophy and will be invited to join forces with the UN SDG Action Campaign as collaborators going forward. A legacy engagement program will be developed for the UN SDG Action Awards Class of 2022 to co-create campaigns, link up with mentors, join training sessions, focus groups and connect with the UN SDG Action Awards alumni network to strengthen and expand skills, approaches and partnerships.
Eligibility Criteria
- This year they are also looking for individuals – the changemakers that inspire and empower others through their actions.
- Through an open application process, they are calling upon individuals and organizations across the globe to share these stories of transformation. Applications will be reviewed against clear criteria measuring the impact, the transformative nature of the approach and the replicability or potential for scale, with winners being selected by a panel of prominent judges.
- Everyone is encouraged to apply. Eligibility exemptions are as follows:
- Note that initiatives that have been closely co-developed with the UN SDG Action Campaign or hold a signed partnership agreement with the UN SDG Action Campaign are not eligible.
- Initiatives led by United Nations entities and national governments will be considered for a special recognition category only.
