UN Women, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, and the PMU request expressions of interest from interested International Livestock Research Institutes to pilot poultry production in South Sudan.
The MGCSW in partnership with UN Women and with financial support from the World Bank is implementing a project aimed at promoting the social and economic empowerment of women and adolescent girls in South Sudan.
The project called “South Sudan Women, Social and Economic Empowerment Project (SSWSEEP)”, will be implemented in 10 states and 2 administrative areas in South Sudan focusing on promoting women’s access to economic opportunities, protection, and access to GBV information and services and also strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare to effectively implement its mandate of promoting Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment.
Components
The project has four (4) components, namely:
- Component 1: Community Empowerment Support to Women and Girls,
- Component 2: The Establishment of the Women’s Entrepreneurial Opportunity Facility (WEOF),
- Component 3: Scaling up services for Survivors of GBV and
- Component 4: Institutional strengthening focusing on the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, Gender, and Youth Cluster, and related national institutions.
Key Activity
- One of the key activities under Component 1: Community Empowerment Support to Women and Girls, is to pilot Poultry production in South Sudan, as a strategy for improving the nutrition and economic livelihoods of women and adolescent girls in South Sudan.
- The pilot phase of the project will promote increased production, promotion, and consumption of poultry, by ensuring that women and adolescent girls have the knowledge, skills, technical support, and market access necessary to make poultry farming a dependable source of revenue and nutrition.
Eligibility Criteria
The eligible Livestock Research Institute will be expected to have:
- A valid legal registration. Attach a valid Registration Certificate.
- Strong international experience (5 years) in the design and implementation of livestock, and poultry production projects, including projects focusing on women’s economic empowerment through poultry production.
- Extensive experience (5 years) in implementing livelihoods and or economic empowerment projects.
- Track record of strong partnerships (5 or more years) with local communities, national, community-based organizations, and government agencies in previous assignments.
- Qualified core staff (Ph.D., Master, and bachelor’s degrees) at field and management level in research, development studies, and other academic areas related to the above-described key result areas.
- The team should have one or more team members with strong background in Gender and Gender mainstreaming.
- Sound financial management and internal financial control system. Attach certified audit reports for 2-3 previous fiscal years.
- Substantial representation of women on its Board and its staff.
