The Arab Startup Competition is a yearly competition run by the MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab that pits entrepreneurs in 3 different tracks: Ideas Track, Startups Track and Social Entrepreneurship Track.
The winning entrepreneurs are awarded prizes worth more than USD 160K and benefit from a range of other activities, including top tier training, mentorship, coaching, media exposure, and great networking opportunities.
Tracks
- Startups Track: Caters to legally registered companies. Applicants should have a working prototype and ideally some user traction and some sales.
- Ideas Track: Caters to entrepreneurs with innovative ideas. Applicants are not required to have a prototype, sales or have their service registered as a company.
- Social Entrepreneurship Track: Caters to companies whose core product or service addresses a social problem.
Prize Information
- Startups Track
- The three winning teams will receive cash prizes:
- $50K for first place
- $10K for second place
- $5K for third place
- Beside the prize money, all qualifying teams would be benefiting from top tier training, coaching, mentorship, and great networking opportunities.
- Ideas Track
- The three winning teams will receive cash prizes:
- $15K for first place
- $10K for second place
- $5K for third place
- Beside the prize money, all qualifying teams would be benefiting from top tier training, coaching, mentorship, and great networking opportunities.
- Social Entrepreneurship Track
- The three winning teams will receive cash prizes:
- $50K for first place
- $10K for second place
- $5K for third place
- Beside the prize money, all qualifying teams would be benefiting from top tier training, coaching, mentorship, and great networking opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria
- Startups Track
- Each team should have at least two members
- The team should have a working prototype and ideally some user traction and some sales
- The startup should not have generated more than $500K in annual revenues and must have been operational for less than 5 years
- The startup should be legally registered in an Arab country
- The startup can be in ANY industry
- Ideas Track
- Each team should have at least two members
- Teams are required to have a proof of concept for their idea
- Teams are not required to have a prototype
- Similarly, teams are not required to have had any sales or have their company registered. The winners however will be required to incorporate their company in an Arab country before receiving their prize
- The ideas can be in ANY industry
- Social Entrepreneurship Track
- Each team should have at least two members
- As we are targeting startup stage social enterprises, team’s startup must be registered in an Arab country
- Each team’s startup can be either for-profit or not-for-profit
- Each team’s core product or service must address a social problem
- Each team’s social enterprise can be in ANY industry
