Deadline: 25 May 2020
The Goethe-Institut will organize three four-day workshops in Arabic for print and multimedia journalists interested in covering scientific topics. These workshops will take place in Cairo, Tunis and Amman.
Beside the basics of science journalism, the participants will get to know how to make science attractive to the greater public and how to interact and attract the younger generation in particular. But this project is not only about getting knowledge but about broadening the personal and professional networks as well.
The five best journalists from each participating country will be invited to the follow-up workshop in Cairo in October. The winners will be selected by an expert jury through submitted articles. The workshop will focus on mobile journalism in cooperation with MOJO Egypt, a Mobile Journalism Academy, and the DAAD Cairo Office.
Goethe-Institut is like to strengthen science journalism in the Middle East and North Africa, to raise awareness for its importance and to fight the phenomenon of fake news. The project fosters the relationship between science on one side and journalism on the other side in order to support knowledge transfer to a broader public and to enhance the general response to researchers’ achievements from all disciplines. Therefore, the Goethe-Institut and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offer workshops in specific skills needed to cover scientific issues for journalists as well as for scientists who aim to present their projects in non-academic media.
