Deadline: 30-Sep-2025
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is providing funding to support organized municipalities within Ontario’s legislated fire region. This funding is part of the Ontario FireSmart Communities Transfer Payment Grant and is aimed at helping with Community Wildland Fire Protection Planning and hazard mapping.
The funding will assist municipalities in completing hazard forest mapping for wildland fire risks and in developing a Community Wildland Fire Protection Plan. This includes conducting a Wildland Fire Community Risk Assessment and creating Wildland Fire Mitigation Strategies.
To be eligible, municipalities must be located within Ontario’s designated Fire Region. Selection is based on several factors, including the amount of land at high or extreme wildland fire risk as shown on MNR Hazard Forest Maps and the average number of annual wildland fire incidents.
Applicants must submit a project plan showing the need for financial assistance and outlining their financial commitment to wildland urban interface programs. Municipalities must also show community support for FireSmart initiatives and a clear commitment to carrying out mitigation strategies.
