Deadline: 10-Aug-2025
The Delfina Foundation, supported by its Network of Africa Patrons, is inviting applications from artists based in East Africa for a twelve-week residency in London. The residency will take place during the foundation’s ‘open’ winter season in 2026, which focuses on independent research rather than a specific theme.
Delfina Foundation hosts four residency seasons each year, and this opportunity is designed to offer artists time, space, and resources to develop their work while engaging with the UK art scene. Selected participants will live and work in a shared house with up to eight other residents, using shared facilities such as bathrooms, kitchens, a library, and a dining room.
The residency package includes a return economy-class flight, airport transfers in the UK, visa fee reimbursement (if required), and a daily living allowance of £40. Artists will also receive a £1,000 materials budget, a local travel pass, and access to a full programme of structured and independent activities.
Participants will benefit from interactions with other artists, curators, researchers, and academics through presentations, studio visits, and shared meals. Professional development activities such as portfolio reviews, mentoring, and crit sessions are included, along with guided visits to galleries, museums, artist-run spaces, and institutions outside London.
To be eligible, applicants must be citizens or long-term residents of one of the following countries: British Indian Ocean Territory, Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, French Southern Territories, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mayotte, Mozambique, Réunion, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.
Applicants should be looking to expand their practice through research, able to demonstrate how the residency will support their artistic and career development, and proficient in English.
