Comic Relief Global Majority Fund has launched a grant program with additional contributions from Salford CVS, One Manchester, and Trafford Housing Trust and administered on behalf of Caribbean & African Health Network (CAHN) by Macc.
Objective
- The objective of the funding programme is to increase the wellbeing of communities of African and Caribbean people in Greater Manchester.
Priorities
- Covid-19: They will prioritise work that helps people suffering from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic or supports recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
- High Risk Communities: They will prioritise work with people from Black and African communities identified as ‘higher risk including those experiencing: long-term health problems; domestic abuse; poor or worsening mental or physical health; interrupted or limited access to advice and services; homelessness and insecure shelter; the increasingly hostile environment faced by migrants, undocumented groups, people seeking asylum and refugees; communities with no recourse to public funds.
- Collaboration: They will prioritise applications from organisations who are collaborating with other private, public, and VCSE organisations.
- Avoiding Duplication: They will prioritise applications from organisations that are not duplicating services being delivered by other organisations within the area they are working in.
- Living Wage: They want applications from organisations that pay their workers adequately for the work they do.
- Volunteers and Staff: They will prioritise applications from organisations that look after the wellbeing of their staff and volunteers and help them to learn new skills.
- Local Suppliers: They will prioritise organisations that use local suppliers of goods and services.
- Equality and Diversity: They will prioritise organisations that are inclusive.
Funding Information
- Funding Grants are for either: £5000, £10,000 or £15,000.
- Organisations can only apply for one grant Organisations that began after March 2020 or have only a limited track record can apply for a £5000 grant.
- Organisations who spent less than £50,000 on activities in the last financial year April 2020 to March 2021 can apply for either a £5000 or £10,000 grant.
- Organisations that spent over £50,000 on activities in the last financial year can apply for £5000, £10,000 or £15,000 grant.
- The funding is for activities that will take place between July 2021 and June 2022.
- The activities must take place within Greater Manchester.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to apply for this funding your organisation must:
- Be based in Greater Manchester
- Not distribute any of their surpluses or assets through share dividends to individuals or shareholders.
- Be a voluntary, community or social enterprise organisation, which is either
- Unincorporated Association with a constitution
- Company Limited by Guarantee
- Registered Charity
- Charitable Incorporated Organisation
- Cooperative Society
- Community Benefit Society
- Community Interest Company limited by share (schedule 2 with 100% asset lock)
- Have an annual turnover of less than £500,000 in the last financial year.
- Have at least 3 directors or trustees who are not related to each other.
- Be Caribbean or African led. At least 51% of the senior management team and trustees must be from the Caribbean or African communities that your organisation serves.
- Have a bank account in the name of the organisation with at least 2 signatories or have an arrangement with another VCSE organisation to hold the money for you. This organisation must have charitable aims, and a bank account with at least 2 signatories.
- Have an up-to-date safeguarding policy if the activity involves children or vulnerable adults,
- Be able to provide a copy of a current insurance liability policy certificate to cover your activities, if relevant.
- Agree to pay, at a minimum, the living wage (£9.50/hr) to all staff employed through this funding.
