Deadline: 20-Aug-21
The Somerset Community Foundation is seeking applications for its Older People’s Fund to build stronger communities in Somerset where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Priorities
- They want to use this fund to support friendship clubs and active living groups, transport schemes and other projects to help older people (usually aged over 65) age well and feel part of their community. It’s about creating opportunities for older people to connect with others, so they don’t become isolated and lonely. It’s also about helping people to keep fit and healthy during their older years.
- Please note within this Fund they also have some specific money to support older people who are deaf or have hearing loss.
- They are also keen to see applications that contain an element of physcial activity for older people, or helping them to access this.
- They’re more likely to give you money if your group:
- is based in a more disadvantaged community. Their team check the Index of Multiple Deprivation to see if you are in a richer or poorer part of Somerset.
- works with older people facing bigger challenges than others. This might include people with disabilities, or those with conditions like dementia
- actively works with other groups in your area to make sure everyone can benefit from what you provide
- has not received money from them in the last year.
Funding Information
- The Older People’s Fund has about £150,000 to give out this year.
- You can ask for £1,000 to £5,000. They expect larger size grants to be awarded to bigger organisations with a greater reach into Somerset communities.
- This money comes from lots of different donors.
What can you use the money for?
- You can use this money towards the costs of supporting older people.
- This might include things like
- staff
- activities
- running costs.
What are the criteria (or rules) for this fund?
- You can only apply if your group:
- usually runs on less than £500,000 a year
- is based in the county of Somerset (but not North Somerset or BANES)
- exists to support your community and doesn’t make a profit for any directors, members, or shareholders.
- That means charities, community groups, sports clubs, and social enterprises can usually apply. But your group must have a:
- governing document or set of rules
- committee of at least three unrelated people
- bank account in its name
- safeguarding policy.
