ILGA Asia is pleased to launch a call for proposals for the UN Mechanisms & LGBTIQ+ Rights Advocacy in India, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, South Korea, and Japan.
ILGA Asia is organizing a 3-weeks online advanced training on human rights advocacy and UN mechanisms for LGBTIQ+ activists in Asia from November 1-20, 2021.
The training will prioritize LGBTIQ+ activists and community members coming from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, South Korea, and Japan.
Objectives
The objectives of the training are:
- To create a platform for LGBTIQ+ human rights defenders to reinforce their knowledge, hone practical skills, and share best practices on UN mechanisms;
- To appreciate the value of human rights principles and key UN mechanisms (treaty-bodies, UPR, special procedures) in supporting domestic advocacy;
- To translate the knowledge of international human rights mechanisms into practice on the ground;
- To integrate the use of UN mechanisms in advocacy for SOGIESC-rights in Asia.
The training is the continuous efforts to strengthen capacity of the LGBTIQ+ community in Asia on the use of UN mechanisms to promote human rights and domestic advocacy.
Eligibility Criteria
ILGA Asia is looking for the following candidates to join the workshop, who:
- Are ready to commit to the full 3 weeks period of the program
- Are from either of the following countries: India, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, South Korea, and Japan
- Have previous advocacy experience on SOGIESC issues either locally, nationally, regionally or internationally
- Have basic knowledge about international human rights mechanisms
- Belong to an LGBTIQ+ organization preferably having a role related to advocacy
- Your organization is working or planning to work, with international advocacy as part of its strategy for the coming years
- Have a working knowledge of English, both in written and oral form
