Applications are now open for the James C. Stewart Charitable Foundation Grant Program to support a variety of charitable causes to organizations primarily located in Tucson, Arizona and Southern California.
Through the businesses and the Wells Fargo Foundation, they align the resources and expertise to make a positive impact in communities, address complex societal issues, and help build a more inclusive, sustainable future for all.
Priorities
They provide grants to nonprofit organizations working to strengthen the resilience of the communities and the planet with a focus on supporting nonprofits that strategically align with the funding priorities:
- Financial health, housing affordability, small business growth, and sustainability and environmental justice.
- They prioritize funding to activities and programs that have a broad reach and impact several geographical areas, communities, and/or groups.
- They also focus on supporting the needs of underserved communities and advancing racial equity.
Requirements
- To be eligible, organizations must qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
- Applications must be submitted through the online grant application form or alternative accessible application designed for assistive technology users.

Eligibility Criteria
- Have tax exempt status under IRS code 501(c)(3), or be a qualified governmental agency, tribal entity or public school or school system
- Be located in one or more of the counties they serve
- Demonstrate fiscal and administrative stability
- Deliver services addressing critical community needs that align with the strategic focus areas.
Ineligible Criteria
- Individuals
- Organizations that discriminate, including but not limited to, on the basis of race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, country of origin, citizenship, veteran, or disability status
- Religious organizations, unless they are engaged in programs that are non-sectarian, benefit a broad base of the community, and have a separate 501(c)(3) designation
- Political action committees, candidates, causes, and lobbying
- Labor, alumni, or fraternal groups
- Recreation, athletic, or sports teams, programs, or leagues
- For-profit entities, including start-up small businesses
- Grants specifically for travel, including student trips or tours.
