The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that support the policy goal of advancing human rights and fundamental freedoms in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK or North Korea).
DRL seeks proposals for the human rights community to reinvigorate efforts that encourage the DPRK government to improve the human rights situation in North Korea and advance U.S. priorities to promote respect for human rights, foster accountability, and increase access to independent information in the DPRK.
Focus Areas
Each individual application must respond to one of the four following priority focal areas:
- Fostering Accountability for Serious Human Rights Abuses and Transnational Repression
- Advancing the Rights of Women and Girls
- Promoting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
- Strengthening Labor Rights and Protections
Funding Information
- Award Ceiling: $3,000,000
- Award Floor: $50,000
Eligibility Criteria
- DRL welcomes applications from U.S.-based and foreign-based non-profit organizations/nongovernment organizations (NGO) and public international organizations; private, public, or state institutions of higher education; and for-profit organizations or businesses.
- DRL’s preference is to work with non-profit entities; however, there may be some occasions when a for-profit entity is best suited.
