Deadline: 12-Oct-22
Entries are now open for the 2023 Neptun State Prize for Water – an Austrian environmental and innovation prize for sustainable water projects.
The Neptun State Prize for Water is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism (BMLRT), the Austrian Association for Gas and Water (ÖVGW) and the Austrian Water and Waste Management Association (ÖWAV).
The partners are Kommunalkredit Public Consulting, the City of Vienna – Wiener Wasser, the Zwettl private brewery and VERBUND. The municipality category is supported by the Austrian federal states.
It was founded in 1999 as the Neptun Water Prize to highlight the importance of water as a resource – especially in the areas of life, the environment, business, science, art and society.
Categories
The three specialist categories of the Neptun State Prize for Water:
- With the category Water EDUCATION, the Neptun State Prize for Water honors initiatives, projects and actions that contribute to the protection and sustainable use of water with (awareness) education and knowledge transfer. These include projects involving public participation in water management, as well as school campaigns to raise awareness of the use of water as a resource, or creative ideas to make water a tangible experience.
- The specialist category WasserFORSCHT offers a platform for projects from the areas of research and development in science and industry that deal with the protection of water as a resource.
- With the category CREATIVE Water, the Neptun State Prize for Water provides a stage for art on the subject of water – and twice over! Works of art related to the Waldviertel are honored with the regional special award “Water CREATIVITY in the Waldviertel”. This special award was also endowed with 1,500 euros in prize money. The “KREATIVE water in the Waldviertel” award is given independently of the selection of the winning projects in the CREATIVE water category.
Prize Information
The main prize is endowed with a further 3,000 euros. The nine nominated entries (the top 3 each) from the three subject categories take part in the election. The determination will be made as part of a public online voting in the weeks before the award ceremony around World Water Day 2023 (March 22).

- Individuals are also invited to participate.
- In particular, the Viennese category “WasserWIEN” is open to them, as well as the possibility to propose a municipality in the Austria-wide category “WasserGEMEINDE”.
