The Port Macquarie Hastings Council is accepting applications for its Wayne Richards Sporting Scholarship Program to a Port Macquarie Hastings athlete participating at state or national level.
Benefits
- The annual scholarship is to the value $4,000.
- Upon the announcement of the recipient, the recipient will receive $1,000, followed by three (3) quarterly instalments of $1,000 on the condition that the scholarship recipient provides the Mayor’s Sporting Fund Sub-Committee with quarterly updates and continues with competition participation.
What can the Scholarship money be used for?

The scholarship can be used costs associated with training and sporting competitions/ championships in their chosen sport. Examples of expenses include:
- Competition entry fees/levies
- Transport costs (eg., airfares, petrol)
- Accommodation
- Uniform
- Sporting equipment.
Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:
- be between 13 – 21 years of age at the time applications close
- be an Australian Citizen or have permanent resident status, (and reside in Australia)
- be a permanent resident of the Port Macquarie-Hastings Local Government area
- be participating as an athlete in a sport endorsed by the relevant Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and recognised by the National Sporting Organisation (NSO).
Note: Futsal, Oz Tag, Cheerleading and Royal Life Saving & Surf Life Saving are not Australian Sports Commission recognised National Sporting Organisations and hence athletes in these sports are not eligible.
