Grindr for Equality (G4E) is delighted to announce an open call for LGBTIQ+ advocacy grants in Middle East-North Africa (Arabic-speaking countries) to support LGBTIQ+ organizations advocating for health, safety, and community empowerment.
Thematic Areas
Applications must fall under one of the following thematic areas. Below are some examples of projects for these thematic areas, but applicable projects do not necessarily need to be among those listed.
- Advocacy and Decriminalization: Media campaigns; peer support training; running hotlines and emergency services; collecting and documenting human rights violations and/or the stories and oral histories of LGBTIQ+ people for advocacy purposes; advocacy activities for the repeal of laws that criminalize LGBTIQ+ people; the enactment of comprehensive anti-discrimination laws; community advocacy through the provision of sexual health, mental health, and legal services.
- Training and Capacity Building: Organizing sessions and training workshops related to LGBTIQ+ issues, including other intersecting issues such as broader human rights, feminism, safety and security, etc.
- Protection, inclusion, and empowerment of transgender or transsexual people Campaigns, leadership programs, and training to raise the voices of trans people; advocating for legal recognition of diverse gender identities; projects to improve access to medical care for transgender people; and providing support for treatment of Hormone Replacement and Gender Affirmation Surgeries.
Funding Information
- Grants are available in the amount of US$5,000.
Selection Criteria
- Organizations or groups that are operating in the Middle East and North Africa (Arabic-speaking countries).
- Organizations or groups focused primarily on advancing for LGBTIQ+ rights (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer, and more).
- Organizations and groups that do not focus primarily on advancing LGBTIQ+ issues are still eligible to apply for funding for projects that support LGBTIQ+ people if the group is managed by LGBTIQ+ people. For example, organizations or groups in which LGBTIQ+ people occupy all or most of the leadership positions at the various decision-making levels in the group.
- We do not accept applications from individuals, nor do we fund projects proposed by or for the benefit of individuals.
- We do not accept requests from for-profit companies.
- We do not accept applications from religious institutions, universities, sports teams, arts groups, government entities, political parties, or election campaigns.
- Organizations and groups do not need to have registered as an NGOs to qualify for our grants. However, they need to be able to receive funds via a bank account or have a fiscal sponsor.
- We will ask you, if possible, to publicly acknowledge the role of Grindr for Equality (G4E) in your work. If you decline this publicity for security reasons, this will not affect your chance of receiving a grant.
