Open Call for Gandhara Independent Film Festival

Open Call: Canon Video Grant for Short Film Documentary

Deadline: 31-Jul-2025

The Gandhara Independent Film Festival is thrilled to announce that this year’s competitive section is open to filmmakers worldwide. #GIFFEST2025 aims to showcase some of the most exceptional films globally. For the past five years, GIFF has given filmmakers the opportunity to reach a global audience and present their talent internationally. The 2025 edition is approaching, and GIFF eagerly awaits your film submissions, excited to experience the waves of emotion your remarkable stories will bring.

GIFF looks forward to welcoming all submissions to the 6th edition of this incredible festival experience. The awards include Best Film (Short and Feature), Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Sound Design, Audience Choice, and Special Mention Certificates.

All submissions receive certificates and an official laurel. The festival theme is open, and there is no entry fee. Films must have been made from 2023 onwards and must contain embedded English subtitles. There is no limit on the number of films one can submit, but each film requires a separate submission form.

By submitting your film, you agree that your trailer and posters can be shared on the festival’s website and social media. The festival may screen submitted films at partner festivals or media outlets, always crediting the original creators. However, the festival does not cover participant expenses or pay screening fees. Submission does not guarantee selection.

All communications will be done via email only, so provide an authorized email and respond promptly. No phone inquiries will be entertained. Filmmakers will be notified by email if accepted. Festival decisions are final. Organizers reserve the right to suspend or modify the festival if needed.

The festival accepts narrative shorts (up to 45 minutes) and features (up to 150 minutes), both with embedded English subtitles. Selection is made by festival programmers, with all selections posted online.

Submitted films must be original and not infringe on any copyrights or third-party rights. Films containing offensive language, violence, religious content, hate speech, defamatory or politically sensitive content, sexual innuendos, or nudity will be disqualified.

All films must be made from 2023 onward and submitted via FilmFreeWay. Including a press kit with a trailer, stills, logline, synopsis (25 words), and bios of cast and crew is encouraged to speed up the process. Read all Terms and Conditions before submitting.

The festival may use up to 10% of the film’s running time for promotional purposes.
