Deadline: 15-Jan-2026
The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings is inviting applications for its Video Program to help finance original video content that supports eligible Canadian-owned and -controlled sound recordings by Canadian artists.
The FACTOR Video Program supports artists rated 2 and 3 who are not already receiving video funding through other FACTOR initiatives such as Company Envelope, Artist Entrepreneur, or Juried Sound Recording.
Eligible artists can receive up to 50% of their total approved budget, with a maximum of $20,000 per fiscal year for Artist 2 and $30,000 for Artist 3. All expenses must be incurred and paid within the same program year (April 1–March 31).
FACTOR may reject or withdraw funding if the produced content violates its Business Policies on Offensive Material, which prohibit hate propaganda, obscene or pornographic material, excessive violence, or content that discriminates against identifiable groups.
Eligible songs must have been commercially released no earlier than six months prior to application, while upcoming releases may apply within three months before their release date, with proof of release provided. The review process for applications typically takes up to six weeks from the date of submission.
Eligible costs include payments for producers, videographers, editors, production staff, talent, equipment and facility rentals, and post-production services. All costs must be verified, incurred after submission, and paid before the project completion deadline.
Costs must be paid to Canadians or Canadian-owned companies, with limited exceptions for productions taking place abroad. Ineligible costs include capital purchases, rebated taxes, union fees, fines, artist performance fees, non-Canadian production costs, and grant writing or management fees.
In-house costs and related-party services are allowed at fair market value, capped at 25% of total eligible costs. Proof of all payments is required, and incidental purchases, leases, and per diems must be supported by receipts or signed FACTOR forms.
Musicians’ fees are capped at $300 per day, with additional per diems up to $50 per day, and travel costs must adhere to Government of Canada rates, including a $300 nightly cap for accommodations and economy-only airfare.
Administration expenses may be included up to 15% of the eligible budget, with a maximum of $3,000, covering general business overheads such as staffing or occupancy but excluding grant writing or management costs.
FACTOR reserves the right to modify budgets and requires applicants to report any major changes exceeding 20% of the original budget. Applicants are encouraged to consult FACTOR before incurring uncertain or significant costs.
Eligible applicants include artists rated 2 or 3 who control the Canadian commercial release and exclusive exploitation rights to their sound recordings. This may be a Canadian artist, if unsigned, or a Canadian record label that has licensed or holds an option to license the sound recording.
Labels applying must retain exclusive control of the recording’s exploitation rights for two years following its first release. Artists applying directly must own and control the Canadian copyright, with no licensing agreements in place at the time of application.
Ineligible applicants include active recipients of funding through the Company Envelope, Artist Entrepreneur, or Juried Sound Recording programs, non-Canadian record labels, and artists rated General at FACTOR.
Applications already submitted to Music action are also not accepted. Applicants must first have reviewed and approved Applicant and Artist Profiles through FACTOR’s client portal and provide all mandatory details, including production start date, goals, video type, song details with MP3 and lyrics, shoot location, treatment plan, release date, and a detailed budget.
Applications for this opportunity are accepted on a rolling basis but must be submitted by January 15, 2026, to be considered for the current fiscal year. Applications received after this date will roll over to the following year unless the project and completion report are finalized by March 15.
