Deadline: 22-Apr-25
The Institute for Climate and Society (iCS) announces the Nature & Climate AI Challenge to encourage the development of new uses for digital technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), that mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, conserve biodiversity and promote greater resilience in ecosystems.
The investment seeks to support the development of digital solutions (improved or new), including software, hardware, research, methodologies, techniques, concepts, practices or theories, aimed at the systematization of databases, remote sensing, monitoring systems, prediction and forecasting systems, as well as tools to assist decision-making in public policies, among others.
The Challenge aims to stimulate actions in less served regions, including the Amazon region and other parts of Brazil.
The Challenge is organized into three pillars of activity: Regenerative Agriculture, Reversing Biodiversity Loss and Bioeconomy.
Who is behind the Challenge?
- The Challenge is organized by the Climate and Society Institute (iCS), a philanthropic organization that supports projects and institutions dedicated to tackling climate change in all regions of Brazil. iCS acts as a bridge between international and national funders and local partners, and is part of a broad network of philanthropic organizations dedicated to building solutions to the climate crisis.
- Much more than a financing intermediary, iCS promotes dialogue between sectors, aggregates knowledge and establishes information, intelligence and cooperation networks, in a combination of strategies to promote greater Brazilian ambition in the climate agenda.
- The Challenge is carried out with the support of Google.org and has technical support from the Institute of Technology and Society (ITS).
Funding Information
- The total amount available to support those selected in this Challenge is R$18,000,000.00 (eighteen million reais).
Who can participate?
- Non-profit organizations, such as civil society organizations (CSOs), academic organizations, educational and research institutions, think tanks, and research centers or other third sector entities.
- The applicants should operate and have an address in Brazil and demonstrate prior knowledge of AI and technology.
- The Challenge is focused on non-profit private organizations and entities; non-profit public or private institutes and research centers and universities.
