The Balipara Foundation Awards is designed to celebrate the efforts of the Earth Heroes who work in the extreme conditions of the Eastern Himalaya.
Amidst the harsh monsoons, shivering winters and uneven terrains these conservationists have stood up to preserve the biodiversity in the Eastern Himalaya.
Categories
- Rural Futures Rewilding Award: To be accorded to an individual/community/ governmental/ non – governmental organization, who has raised awareness about the crucial role of forests in the ecosystem through their outstanding contribution on conservation and restoration of the wildlife.
- NaturenomicsTM Award: To be accorded to a green entrepreneur whose conservation model has positively impacted the environment, created avenues for economic growth and encouraged communities to adopt sustainable practices.
- Green Legal/Journalist Award: To be accorded to a lawyer or legal organization which has used the courts to win justice for wildlife or for communities living in or around wildernesses. To an environmental journalist who has become the voice for forest communities, covered stories of conservation and stood up for restoration and preservation of the habitats.
- Green Guru Award: To be presented to a teacher or educator who has inspired students and youth groups to learn about the nature. Through his innovative teaching methods, he/she has encouraged students to understand about the necessity of on-ground conservation and restoration of wildlife.
- Young Naturalist Award: To be accorded to a young conservationist in the age group 18 to 35, whose relentless efforts have led towards conserving local habitats, and has inspired youth groups into conservation action.
- Food for the Future Award: To be accorded to a visionary scientist/NGO/ farmer who has executed sustainable and innovative regenerative agricultural practices; for example – agroforestry, organic crops etc. It can also be indigenous farmers who has successfully demonstrated alternative sustainable farming model that has brought replicable change in the agricultural practice
- Forests Guards & Rangers Award: To be accorded to forest heroes, who have demonstrated exemplary service by going beyond the call of duty to protect and preserve the rich flora and fauna of protected areas, national parks and reserve forests across the Eastern Himalaya.
- Lifetime Service Award: To be presented to a teacher or educator who has inspired students and youth groups to learn about the nature. Through his innovative teaching methods, he/she has encouraged students to understand about the necessity of on-ground conservation and restoration of wildlife.
Rules and Regulations
- Self-nomination and joint nominations are permitted but being nominated by more than one person does not increase your chance of winning.
- Nominees for all the awards must live or work within the Eastern Himalayan region – Northeast India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal
- All nominees consent to taking part in any publicity associated with the awards
- If you are shortlisted, you must be in Guwahati Assam
Selection Process
- A shortlist will be drawn up by Balipara Foundation Members. Shortlisted nominees will then be judged by esteemed jury panelists
- The decision of the shortlisting panel and the judges is final
- Shortlisted nominees will be notified by email, or by phone where no email address has been supplied, by the end of October.
