Funded by LaunchVic and supported by their corporate partners, the Barayamal Accelerator will rapidly accelerate the growth of the Indigenous businesses by providing capital, mentoring and industry support over three months then showcase their success at the culminating Demo Day on the 27 November.
The Barayamal Accelerator incorporates a competition model to select innovative Indigenous businesses. Indigenous entrepreneurs submit an application for the Barayamal Accelerator program, which is reviewed and shortlisted, with the most innovative Indigenous businesses in Australia then pitching for one of the five spots available. At the end of this pitch competition, only five Indigenous startups are invited to participate in the Barayamal Accelerator.

- Cash Prize
- The five innovative Indigenous businesses will receive a funding total of $50,000 in grants with all participants also receiving free coworking space, mentoring and training from industry experts at the Victorian Innovation Hub, Goods Shed North.

- Coworking Space

- Tailored Membership
- 1-on-1 mentoring from world-class entrepreneurs, subject matter experts, community leaders, and investors. Barayamal brings together a passionate group of mentors from diverse backgrounds throughout Australia, which includes technologists, investors, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, industry experts, and community leaders.
- Demo Day
- The Barayamal Accelerator’s “Demo Day” is where Indigenous startups pitch their business to a room full of investors and community members. The national showcase of Australia’s best Indigenous startups will provide a platform to raise further funding and network with investors.
Eligibility Criteria
- The application process will be extremely competitive and judged on the following criteria:
- Indigenous startup or scaleup.
- Must be less than 7 years old from the date of incorporation.
- Strong desire to learn and willingness to implement the advice.
- The applicant effectively conveyed the problem, solution, and feasibility of their business model.
- Proof of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage.
- Agree to participate in future program evaluation activity.
- Barayamal is looking for the most innovative businesses that also incorporate Indigenous values. Indigenous entrepreneurs who work hard and pay it forward in their communities will be judged favourably.
