Through a Co-Investment Grant Facility, UNOPS is seeking to collaborate with suitable businesses/organisations with a potential to catalyse economic activities in the mini-grid catchment areas.
The most transformative interventions will be selected; particularly the ones that can address systemic issues and unblock market constraints to demonstrate best case approaches that can be subsequently scaled up.
Below are some examples of interventions that can be funded under the Co- Investment Grant Facility:
- Setting up processing and cold storage facilities in mini-grid catchment areas;
- Development and implementation of inclusive business models involving local communities;
- Last mile distribution of energy efficient appliances;
- Capacity building of communities and SMEs;
- Activities that are aimed at technology improvements for local communities and SMEs;
- Business diversification involving energy off take from the mini-grids;
- Financial inclusion of local communities for the acquisition of appliances and equipment that will connect to the mini grid.
Eligibility Criteria
Targeted Businesses/Organisations
- Community group businesses, e.g farmer associations and savings and lending associations, youth groups and women groups;
- Clusters of businesses;
- Business Development Service (BDS) providers;
- Individual SMEs and companies;
- Existing rural based businesses wishing to diversify into business ventures that use electricity;
- Development practitioners: Development agencies operating in mini grid catchment areas, including projects and programs that facilitate the development of value-chains and develop the capacity of value-chain actors and service providers.
Note
- The submission should be made in a sealed envelope.
- The sealed envelope shall contain one soft copy (in CD or USB-stick) and original in hardcopy.
- In the event of any discrepancy between the soft and/or hardcopies of the ITB, the “Hardcopy Original” shall govern.
