Applicants are invited to apply for the Stop Slavery Award to recognise the wide range of actors dedicated to ending the scourge of modern slavery and human trafficking.
The Stop Slavery Award was launched by the Thomson Reuters Foundation in 2015 to recognise companies who can be considered “best in class” based on the policies and the processes they have in place to limit the risk of slavery in their supply chain and operations, as well as on the role they are playing as key agents in the global fight against slavery. The Stop Slavery Award has gone from strength to strength, most recently with the launch of new categories for 2020 recognising the contribution of SMEs, NGOs, grassroots organisations, the public sector and journalists.
The Stop Slavery Enterprise Award aims to create a virtuous cycle or positive paradigm by demonstrating that businesses can indeed play a critical role in stopping the tragedy of modern slavery worldwide. The global demand for cheap labour is fuelling the slave trade. Market forces create both the supply and the demand for slaves. This is why corporations need to take the lead in the fight.
Award Categories
- Stop Slavery Enterprise Award–Service Companies
- The Enterprise Award is open to service companies that have taken concrete steps to eradicate forced labour from their supply chains.
- Stop Slavery Enterprise Award–Goods Companies
- The Enterprise Award is open to Goods companies that have taken concrete steps to eradicate forced labour from their supply chains.
- Stop Slavery Enterprise Award–Small & Medium Sized Companies
- The Enterprise Award is open to small and medium sized businesses that have taken concrete steps to eradicate forced labour from their supply chains.
- Stop Slavery Collaboration Award
- The Collaboration Award is open to organisations working through impactful partnerships to fight modern slavery and human trafficking.
- Stop Slavery Impact Award
- The Impact Award is open to organisations who have had success achieving policy or legislation change, resulting in positive impact in the fight to eradicate slavery.
- Stop Slavery Hero Award
- The Hero Award is open to grass roots organisations who have had a significant impact in the fight to eradicate slavery – whether on the front lines, or on a global scale.
- Stop Slavery Innovation Award
- The Innovation Award is open to organisations who can demonstrate an innovative approach in the fight to eradicate slavery – whether on the front lines, or on a global scale.
- Stop Slavery Campaigns Award
- The Campaigns Award is open to organisations who have run impactful campaigns to raise awareness of modern slavery and human trafficking.
- Stop Slavery Media Award
- The Stop Slavery Media Award is open to journalists who have produced a highly impactful story, raising awareness and informing society about the often overlooked issue of modern slavery and human trafficking.
General Requirements
- Each initiative (or story, as applicable) is eligible to win one Award. There is no limit to the number of applications an applicant may submit for different initiatives, so long as only one application is submitted per initiative.
- The same initiative cannot be submitted in more than one category. If more than one entity was involved in an initiative, they must decide among them which category it best fits into and submit one application to that category only.
- If an initiative was previously shortlisted for an Award, applicants can apply for the same initiative in any category, however the judges will be looking for ways in which their initiative has developed over the past year.
- If applicant’s initiative previously won an Award, it should not be entered in any category for three years. For example, any initiative that won in 2018 should not be entered again until 2022 (i.e. it is not eligible for 2019, 2020 and 2021). When submitting in subsequent years, the initiative should have undergone substantial changes or development since winning the Award. Applicants can always apply with a new initiative to this year’s Awards.
