The Department for International Development, under the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition has launched a New LEGEND Challenge Fund to pilot innovative approaches to responsible land based investments.
The Challenge Fund is part of DFID’s wider LEGEND: Land: Enhancing Governance for Economic Development programme which aims to improve land rights protection, knowledge, data and information, and responsible land investment.
The Fund has two separate windows in which one window invites applicants to pilot the new New Alliance due diligence tool, while the other invites open applications to pilot responsible investment approaches in land through innovative approaches.
Applicants need to be not-for-profit organisations. They need to demonstrate commitment to partnering with an identified private sector company in the intervention which is the subject of the application.

Funding Value: The funds range from:
- £100,001 to £500,000 and
- £500,001 to £1,000,000.
Focus Countries: Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Zambia
