The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) along with UN Women is seeking nominations for its GEM-TECH Awards with an aim to celebrate personal or organizational achievements and innovative strategies to advance Gender Equality and Mainstreaming in the area of ICTs.
GEM-TECH Awards provides a platform for advancing women’s meaningful engagement with ICTs and their role as decision-makers and producers in the technology sector. They play an important role in highlighting what works and where initiatives can be scaled and further investments made. Moreover, they showcase the tremendous talent and determination of women to ensure that technology and its application are relevant and responsive to their needs.
Award Categories
- Apply Technology for Women’s Empowerment and Digital Inclusion: initiatives related to women’s social, economic, political empowerment, combating gender-based violence (both offline and online), and driving sustainable development.
- Promote Women in the Technology Sector: initiatives that promote more gender equality in ICT/STEM education and careers, especially initiatives where girls and women are cultivated as creators, developers, leaders and decision-makers.
- Develop Gender Responsive ICT Governance, Policy and Access: initiatives focused on new legislation, policy frameworks or internal corporate strategy to improve women’s access, connectivity, security, digital literacy and citizenship, skills development and rights.
Eligibility Criteria
Please nominate themselves or others – individuals, civil society, public sector, UN system and international organizations, private sector – who have done exceptional work in the area.
