The Wear My Shoes Campaign, in its third edition, aims to mobilize children and adults to respond to the climate crisis and its impact on health, education, poverty, violence, justice, and migration affecting children.
The global campaign will examine the contributions made by faith leaders, faith communities, civil society, and non-profit organizations to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and protect children from climate change’s devastating impacts on their well-being. It is an opportunity to support ongoing multi-faith and multi-stakeholder efforts to keep children at the center of environmental decision-making processes affecting the enjoyment of their rights.
This campaign is part of the annual World Day of Prayer and Action for Children, co-led by Arigatou International Prayer and Action and UNICEF, sponsored by The Interfaith Alliance for Safer Communities, and with the support and collaboration of a wide range of global partners who are members of the World Day Planning Committee.
The Wear My Shoes Award 2023 – will recognize ongoing outstanding climate actions initiated and/or promoted by children at the grassroots level. The World Day Planning Committee aims to support actions that empower children and youth to address the root causes of climate injustice and focus on protecting children’s dignity, including the most vulnerable and at the highest risk. It also builds upon the long-term commitment of faith actors to contribute to increasing climate justice for children at policy, regulation, project, and community levels. For people of faith, dignity encompasses respecting and protecting the inherent worth, rights, and well-being of children, guided by religious teachings, ethics, and the recognition of the sacredness of children. It involves creating safe, inclusive, and nurturing environments where children can flourish physically, emotionally, and spiritually while respecting and protecting their rights and agency.
Funding Information
- Five winners will be selected for outstanding child-led practices or projects implemented at the grassroots level, and each will receive USD 5,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- The organization must be legally registered in the country of operation or affiliated with another legally registered organization (required).
- The organization must provide one letter of recommendation from a reputable, well-established organization (required).
- Entries must be child-led action(s) for climate implemented in 2022-2023 and supported by local faith- based or faith-inspired organizations/networks and/or religious communities (required).
- The practice or project must be led by children and supported by adults.
- The practice or project must support children’s rights and well-being through initiatives that:
- Protect children’s rights and well-being by bringing awareness to the climate crisis.
- Connect the impact of the climate crisis to education, poverty, violence, and/or migration affecting children.
- Advocate for children’s protection and dignity affected by the climate crisis.
- Submissions must include supporting documents such as reports, videos, photographs, data, assessments and/or evaluations, information materials, and tools about the results on children, families, schools, and/or communities. Note that video and/or photographic materials are required.
- Effective and ethical participation of children – the practice or project ensures that children’s participation is aligned with safeguarding principles and standards highlighted in the Arigatou International Child Safeguarding
- The practice or project should be promising and aim to strengthen participation opportunities for children at the scope, quality, and outcomes level.
- The practices or projects should be implemented with cultural and religious sensitivity. The local context may include interfaith or inter-denominational implementers and beneficiaries if the local context is not diverse.
Submission Notes
- The selection panel will comprise World Day Planning Committee members.
- Finalists may be asked for an interview with members of the selection panel In such cases, children representatives must attend the interview with staff from the supporting organization and someone from the organization’s leadership team.
- The shortlisted practices and projects will be identified by mid-September.
- The five Award Winners will be notified by mid-October.
- The awards winners will be announced on November 20 during the celebrations.
